HELGA, THE HIPPOPOTAMOUSE

by Elaine Fantle Shimberg, illustrated by Sandy Seeley Walling (Yarmouth, Maine: Abernathy House Publishing) $7.95

Helga is different from the others. She is part hippo and part mouse and she's looking for friends. Told in verse with colorful illustrations, Helga eventually finds a baseball team of various other folks who were different, that needs a catcher. "They were black, green and cream, and together she knew they would make a fine team."    A good lesson for children who either are different in some ways or know others who are.
