PEEPER HAS A FEVER

Charlotte Cowan, M.D., illustrated by Susan Banta. (Concord, MA: The Hippocratic Press) $17.95

Dr. Cowan has written a clever story incorporating a parent's concern and a child's frustration when a fever interrupts exciting plans. Dr. Hippo tells Peeper's mom that the fever of 104 is just the beginning of an infection and that a rash or runny nose may follow. Peeper falls asleep and wakes to hear that he can't go on the picnic. Hearing that Peeper misses out by being sick but takes his medicine reminds young readers that everyone gets sick from time to time, but by taking care of themselves, they soon will be back having fun.
