HANUKKAH

Roni Schotter, illustrated by Marylin Hafner. (New York:New York: Little Brown and Company) $8.99

There's a good reason that this beautifully written and illustrated book was winner of the National Jewish Book Award. Rather than just retelling the story of Hanukkah, it describes the entire family's celebration of it from Grandma Rose to the littlest guy, Moe, who drops his bottle when the menorah is lit. There are latkes, handmade dreidels, and, of course, gifts, but there also is abundant love depicted within these pages. Cudos to the author and illustrator. This is a book any family will treasure along with memories of many years past and present of the more than two thousand year old Festival of Light.
