Kidsgrowth Parent Guidelines
|
When
to Worry About Common Pediatric Problems
A Guideline for Parents
|
| One of the most common worries
of parents-particularly of new parents - is about whether they
are up to the challenges of parenting, especially when it
comes to recognizing illness. Parents frequently need to
decide--should we manage this illness at home or bring the
child to the physician's office or to an emergency room.
What is it that tells parents how
sick their child is? This seems to vary with the child's age,
but most often parents notice changes in activity levels or
appetite. They also pick up on changes in mood or
responsiveness. Mothers and fathers are able to tell whether
their child is less alert, or alternating from looking sicker,
then better, then worse again. After all, who knows their
child better!
While we have prepared (and will
be adding more in the future) the following guidelines, we
strongly feel that a parent's intuition is a very
important guide - perhaps the most important.
