Quick reference medical handouts used by Pediatric offices

How far along in a pregnancy do you have to be to tell the sex of the baby. I am 16 weeks and they said I was having twins girls, but I thought that you have to be between 18-20 weeks to find out the sex.

We asked a number of experts and they all agreed that starting at about 18-20 weeks, the fetal sex can be seen on ultrasound. Of course, the baby (or in your case babies) has to cooperate and be in a position to visualize the genitalia.

It is not until the 13th week of gestation that the sex organs differentiate into female or male. What was the basis by which you were told that you were having twin girls? Was it from an ultrasound?
